Floral Denim, Hot Pink Jewelry And Meeting Stylish Bloggers!

This week flew by me just like the Space Shuttle Discovery on a 747 flew by New York! I didn't see this once a life time event in-person, but I had a chance to meet some of may favorite NY bloggers personally! Mobile shopping app Poshmark had an event in NYC where I got a chance to meet Jenni Radosevich of I Spy DIYLaura of On The Racks, Caroline of Sweet Caroline in the City, Jessie of Style and Pepper, Christina of Profresh StyleChristine of Court & Hudsonand Bonnie of Flashes of Style! These ladies are as sweet as they are stylish! You can read about the event and about the cool app Poshmark in my examiner article. (I write on about NY Style, do check it out for stylish updates, features and interviews)
For the event I chose to wear my floral jeans amped up with some statement jewelry. Running out of time (5 year old asking ten thousand questions about where am I going, when I'll be back and can she wear this necklace to school tomorrow!), I didn't take the outfit pictures in the evening, but during the day while running some errands I looked like this- hair tied in a ponytail and flats instead of 4 inches I wore at the event!
Note to self - Meet a photographer, make friends with him/her!

With the co-hosts of the Poshparty

Clockwise from top - Jenni of I Spy DIY, Manish Chandra, Founder & CEO - Poshmark
Jessie of Style & Pepper, Christine of Court and Hudson
Hope you all had a delightful week and are having a wonderful weekend!

Feminine, Bold, Timeless and Unique - Nieves Lavi 'Libellule' Collection

One look at Nieves Lavi Spring 2012 pieces and you will know why the brand is a favorite among celebrities, fashion editors and fashionistas all over the world! (Jessica Alba is the latest fan!)

Images via Nieves Lavi
Founded in 2003 by by Sharon Lavi and Sam Nieves Velez, Nieves Lavi has grown into a global brand available in 150 stores in the United States and globally in countries like Japan, Australia, France, England, Turkey and Dubai. Sharon and Sam draw upon their diverging cultural backgrounds (hailing from Israel and Puerto Rico, respectively) to create a line of ready-to-wear separates that showcase their love of bold prints and their talent for creating designs that are classic with a modern twist. Their unique take on timeless style of dressing makes their creation fashionable yet wearable. Feminine drapes and silhouettes, bold prints, and artistic designs take center stage in their Spring 2012 collection.

Impressed by the success of of their custom prints and designs in the fashion world, buyers consistently requested Nieves Lavi’s creations at a lower price point. Without losing the quality of the prints and the fabric, the designers behind the brand came up with the ready to wear Nieves Lavi diffusion line Libellule (meaning Dragonfly in both French and Spanish and considered to bring good luck ) Previously available only at Anthropologie stores, Libellule collection is now available through additional distribution channels, including all stores of Neiman Marcus, for Spring 2012.

The new collection shares Nieves Lavi’s bohemian philosophy, free spirited prints, and emphasis on fit with more accessible, of-the-moment pieces. Easy to wear and easy to carry, (the fabric won’t wrinkle) the collection is designed with the carefree, contemporary girl in mind. I love the vibrant, modern, feminine look of Libellule line that translates the brand’s signature prints and silhouettes to their ready to wear line. Sharon Lavi, art director and co founder of Nieves Lavi brand, talks to Style-Delights about the brand's philosophy, design process and her personal style inspirations.

Style-Delights: Thank you so much for taking the time out to talk about Nieves Lavi and Liebellule collection. Your brand seems to have taken the celebrities and fashion world by storm! When and how did Nieves Lavi come about?
Creative duo: Sharon Lavi and Sam Nieves Velez
Sharon Lavi: Sam and I were working at the industry for about 10 years before we co-founded Nieves Lavi, we met at Harve Benard when we both worked as designers,  we realize we enjoy working together and both wanted to be independent and free to design for our own brand. We had similar vision, style and sense of humor, and both of us were inspired by the same things, we had the same aesthetics, we loved prints and love silk jersey, so we started with the first small collection of 5 prints and 6 silk jersey styles.

SD: What is your brand's inspiration and philosophy?
SL: Freedom is the brand inspiration, we wanted to be free and independent. We wanted to design free spirited styles and prints for free spirited people, it had to be beautiful and comfortable and modern, with a lot of respect for the past! We wanted styles and workmanship of great clothes from the past with a clear view of today's women and their ever changing roles and needs.

SD:The collection is so beautiful, feminine and artistic and the drapes, prints and styles are unique! Where are Nieves Lavi clothes made?
SL: We design the textiles here in New York, we create them ourselves and have them made in China with experts specialized in silks, weaving and printing.

SD: Where can we buy them?
SL: Its available across the US and Europe at some of our bigger distributors at Neiman Marcus, Cusp, Great Stuff, Sarca, and Fenwicks (UK)

SD: How do you define your personal style?
SL: Very personal, understated, it is very dependent on the mood and the climate and the weather. I always wear Nieves Lavi, casual and chic with a little twist for "edgy" look, My style must be comfortable.

SD: What advice would you give to aspiring fashion designers?
SL: Finish school, great for contact and paving the path, and then to work as much as possible for a designer/brand/company to learn the profession. You learn all on the job - be serious, come on time, work hard, be ready to do everything and you will learn a lot and get ahead.

SD: Who are the designers that inspired you? Any favorite brands?
SL: We both love the 50's workmanship and the 70 styles. My favorite that I consider a genius was Alexander McQueen, Albert Elbaz for Lanvin and Dries Van Noten

SD: Thank you for your time and insights Sharon, and good luck for future projects!
SL: Thank you!

Girls With Glasses Can Get A Husband! PS. I Tie My Own Cravat!

Move over Anne Hathaway, I am here with my nerdy glasses!! First time on the blog, my glasses make an appearance. I usually wear contacts, but for today's post, I kept them on (they actually go well with this workplace - appropriate outfit!) I have been wearing glasses since middle school, but growing up I was not very confident and comfortable with them. I don't know if I am over generalizing, but in India in the 90s, glasses on girls were not the hottest thing! I was told in whispered tones and sometimes directly too, that girls with glasses have hard time finding husband! (Yes, Jane Austen still is very very relatable to women in Indian society, which thankfully is changing for the better!) Lucky for me, my family was not one of those people who believed it and I was always told I look great!!;-)
And yes, I successfully 'snagged' a great husband too! LOL!
Today's outfit is inspired by Katharine Hepburn, with high waist trousers, man-shirt and a silk scarf. I love to 'wear' scarves as ties (or cravat as I read in those Jane Austen novels!)

Pants - New York and Co.
Scarf - From a weavers co-operative society in India

Coachella Fashion - What To Wear For The Festival

Imave via

Every year Coachella brings big artists, indie bands and music lovers together in beautiful  free-spirited festival settings! The fashion is as much a part of this artistic gathering as the music itself. Celebrities, aspiring musicians, bloggers, and die hard Coachella enthusiasts show their bohemian style during the festival. If you (like me) are not camping in Coachella Valley this weekend or the weekend of April 20-22, you can still tune from home for the music and celebration on the Coachella Youtube channel or at
As for the fashion, create the coachella style by using these  signature festival trends/pieces -

Maxi dresses and skirts
Flowy, sheer, printed, painted - maxi skirts and dresses are Coachella wardrobe essentials. Pair it with a tank top and layer with a denim jacket when the temperature drops in the evening.

Nothing says bohemian better than the fringes! Crochet tops with fringes, long strap purses and cross body fringed bags are commonly seen on the shoulders of Coachella goers!

Tie dye and abstract painted blouses and tees
Bring out the 70s vibe with the tie-dyed blouses or cotton tees paired with shorts and skirts. Pick from the plethora of color choices and patterns.
During the day the temperature usually reaches late 90s, even 100 degrees, so shorts are kinda uniform for the hot day. Paired with crochet top, chunky heal and a hat - it will make you instant Cochella-nista!

For the practical purpose (heat and sun protection) and for the fashion quotient, a cool hat is Coachella must! Fedora with a dress or a floppy hat with shorts, combinations are endless!

Bohemian jewelry
Deck up the outfit with one of a kind pieces or mass produced metal stuff, but make sure to use bangles, long necklaces, dangling earrings, beads and artisan rings!

Are you going to Coachella? Will you be tuning in online or do not care?
