Style-Delights: Happy Holi! (If you don't know what this means, read below!)

Happy Holi! (If you don't know what this means, read below!)

Yes, the pictures you see below are real people throwing colored powered at each other and no its not a riot!  It is Holi! The riot of colors.

For those who are not familiar with Holi - It is a festival of colors celebrated in India and in the countries with a big Indian diaspora. It is a festival that commemorates good harvests and the fertile land. It is a celebration of spring's abundant colors and saying farewell to winter. It has the religious legends too, which if you are interested - you can Google, I am just keeping this blog free of religion and politics;-)
Anyhoo, I have some really fun Holi memories from my childhood - the colors, the food, the song and dance and the all around cheer of the festival. If you like to be clean and untouched this festival is not for you!!

This is me and the hubby dear celebrating Holi with friends circa 2011. This year, we are staying indoors!
No Makeup Required!

My American daughter does not understand what is going on! LOL!
Jeez! My man can pose!!!

Do you celebrate Holi? What is your favorite thing about this festival?
For those who didn't know about Holi, do you find it Intriguing/Fun/Messy??

  1. I love holi...everything about it. Sadly,I am allergic to synthetic colors,so can't participate in the color smearing :( But i love watching people and burning holika. A very happy holi to you and your family :)

  2. Hi Jyoti, wishing you a very happy Holi ! We don't play with colors but me and my hubby smear colors on one another's face and hands ! When I was a child, I thought it was fun, it was so cool ! But now , I find it messy because of the way people play it - some people would even go to the extent of putting colors inside your eyes even if you don't like it .

  7. I've never heard of Holi but it looks like a fabulous time. I would love to wear a sari someday...a very ornate one...ok not as ornate as the bridal kind but a turquoise one with gold sequins trim :) BTW...did I ever tell you that my two favorite bollywood stars are Aishwarya Rai and Priyanka Chopra.
