Lookbook: Plaid, Stripes And A Pretty Hat

Messy hair, don't care - because I have a pretty hat:-) This boiled wool hat from Scala (Available at hartfordyork.com) is my new favorite headgear these days! The color, fit and style - it all speaks to my style.  These hats are made by California based Dorfman Pacific, which is one of the largest full-line, in-stock headwear companies in the world. The eco-friendly process of altering the material eliminates the usage of harsh chemicals while effectively shrinking the wool to make stylish, warm and well fitting hats and winter accessories. BTW, if you didn't know how to determine your hat size (seriously I didn't know, and always bought hats by trying them on, thus missing out on online deals) you gotta watch this video! I measured my head and got the perfect size for my hat!

Tuxedo Inspired

Diane Keaton did it long before everyone else. And now for past couple seasons, I have been noticing a lot of menswear inspired  looks - from Fashion Week street style to glossy magazine editorials! Even though my style is more feminine, I have to say there is something really chic about a tailored tuxedo on a woman. These tuxedo jeans from Coldwater Creek (first styled here) are a perfect pair to build a chic tux-inspired polished style. I wore this with my Mango smoking blazer and a white blouse, but it would look really good with a button front and an oversized silk bow too!  *Note to self - remember this for future outfit posts!;-)

Among all our senses, the sense of smell is the one we most strongly associate emotions with. Our olfactory sense can take us to a walk down the memory lane and it can also capture small moments in time that become the foundation of our future memories. I still feel like I am enveloped in the warm hug of my mom when I smell calamine lotion! I am not a big makeup person - I try to stick to my tried and tested skincare products as I have problem skin - for me, perfumes are my beauty essentials. Just a whiff of my favorite notes - from floral to vanilla to musk to fruits - and I feel better! A good perfume can make you feel sexier, more confident, happier and can lift up the spirits. I love big name perfumes because I can trust them to do their research and develop fragrances that are truly long lasting and amazing. But I hate to pay designer prices for them. I am regular Walmart shopper for my groceries and I have to say I never realized that they have great brands and celebrity perfumes in their beauty isle and the prices the lowest anywhere!! The other day I decided to check out their perfume isle and was so impressed by the selection and prices! I picked out Wonderstruck by Taylor Swift - the 1 oz bottle cost me less than $30!

This is an amazing fragrance that lasts whole day. The scent is floral with sparkling fruity tones on a wooden background. Top notes are raspberry, dewberry, green tea, freesia and apple blossom. The heart features sweet vanilla with honeysuckle and white hibiscus. Base notes of golden amber, musk, sandalwood and peach. The first spritz is very strong, but it mellows down after a little while and at least for me, the reaction with my skin was wonderful. I had put just a spritz on my wrists and on my neck and when I hugged my daughter, she said she want to snuggle with me for loooooooooooong time because I smell so good!' (What my husband said is not suitable to mention here as it is family friendly blog!;)

Lookbook: Basic Instincts

Sometimes all you need are basics. In life and in style. Like my outfit today. It is the answer for my 'I-am-not-sure-what-to-wear-today' question. A simple pair of basic blue skinnies (these Liverpool Jeans Co pair is my wardrobe workhorse!) and a white shirt with micro polka dots are my updated basics. Splash of bright yellow via a belt and not-so-plain pumps in basic black and white, I now know what to wear. Absolutely!
Shoes - Zara (Spring 2013), VERY similar from C Label (**On Sale Now!**)
Bag - 3.1 Phillip Lim For Target (similar from Ann Taylor)
Belt - Steve Madden via TJMaxx, Similar from Banana Republic

Fall Trends: Mixed Material & How To Create Your Own Mixed Media Look

Is it just me, or this year, Fall so far has been pretty mild, at least in New York/New Jersey area? I don't want to jinx it, but we are having some really bright, mildly cool days that don't require heavy jackets yet they are crisp enough to feel like Fall! For days like that I like to layer light pieces to keep my cozy! I am loving the mixed material trend, and decided to create the mixed media look by mixing the pieces I already have in my wardrobe. I layered this textured pullover from Target with a faux leather vest from Zara for my very own mixed media sweater!
I made this cowl scarf last year (Tutorial Here - I cast 79 instead of 49 stitches on 16' circular needles, to make the cowl fit more loosely around my neck)
